Delta Government Rebuts AAC Candidate’s Criticism, Highlights Oborevwori’s Achievements

… Urges AAC Governorship Candidate to Verify Facts Before Criticizing Delta Government

The Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, Mr. Ossai Ovie Success, has defended the performance of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, describing recent criticisms by the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate, Engr. Isaac Eshor, as misleading and lacking factual basis.

Reacting to an interview granted by Engr. Eshor in which he criticized the administration of Governor Oborevwori, Ossai maintained that political leadership should be evaluated on measurable achievements rather than political rhetoric.

According to him, the M.O.R.E Agenda of the Oborevwori administration has continued to deliver visible projects and impactful programmes across the 25 local government areas of Delta State.

The true test of leadership is not empty criticism but tangible results. Across Delta State, the achievements of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori are visible for everyone to see, he said.

Responding to claims that the state had little to show despite huge federal allocations, Ossai argued that the governor’s developmental strides are evident in critical sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education and rural development.

He noted that the ongoing construction of major flyovers in Warri and its environs, Ughelli and Agbor, has significantly improved traffic flow, enhanced economic activities and reduced travel time for commuters.

The governor’s spokesman further highlighted the construction and rehabilitation of over 500 kilometres of roads across the state, including the Warri–Ode-Itsekiri Road project, Beneku Bridge, the Ughelli–Asaba dualization project and several rural access roads connecting farming communities to markets.

He also pointed to the ongoing Warri/Effurun Storm Drainage Project, describing it as a strategic investment aimed at tackling perennial flooding and protecting businesses and residential communities.

On healthcare, Ossai said the administration has embarked on the upgrading of 196 Primary Healthcare Centres to Level 2 status to provide 24-hour medical services, while also expanding access to free maternal and child healthcare as well as the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme for vulnerable residents.

Speaking on education, he said the government has recruited more teachers, renovated and equipped public schools, paid bursaries to students in tertiary institutions and introduced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities in secondary schools to improve learning outcomes.

He added that several rural road projects have also been approved by the administration to open up communities for economic growth, stressing that the benefits of governance are reaching every part of the state.

Ossai urged politicians seeking elective office to engage in constructive criticism based on verified facts rather than making sweeping statements capable of misleading the public.

He emphasized that Governor Oborevwori remains focused on delivering democratic dividends to Deltans through the implementation of the M.O.R.E Agenda, adding that the administration’s performance would continue to speak louder than political propaganda.

NSCDC Delta Busts Alleged Power Cable Vandal Syndicate, Arrests Five Suspects in Kwale

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Delta State Command, has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on the vandalization of critical national assets with the arrest of five suspected members of an alleged power cable vandalism syndicate in Kwale, Delta State.

The suspects were apprehended on Thursday, July 2, 2026, during a joint operation carried out by NSCDC operatives in collaboration with the Utagba Ogbe Vigilante Group.
The operation targeted individuals allegedly involved in the vandalization of electricity power line cables and other critical power infrastructure.

The arrested suspects were identified as:

Mbube Godwin Anioh, 20

Ekeanys Onyemechinyi, 19

Muhammadu Atamnu, 37

Chibuke Anah Ehiya, 20

Nworomu Ekpede, 17

According to preliminary investigations, the suspects are alleged to have participated in the vandalization, possession, purchase, and sale of stolen electricity power line cables. The Command described the activities as acts of economic sabotage that threaten public infrastructure and disrupt electricity supply.

During the operation, NSCDC personnel recovered a substantial quantity of vandalized electricity power line cables and other electrical materials believed to have been stolen from power installations. The recovered exhibits have been secured as evidence, while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate, including individuals involved in receiving and trading the stolen items.

The Command assured the public that anyone found culpable at the conclusion of investigations would be prosecuted in accordance with the law. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure while intensifying efforts to dismantle criminal networks engaged in the vandalization of public utilities.

The State Commandant commended both the NSCDC operatives and the Utagba Ogbe Vigilante Group for their successful collaboration, describing community partnership as a vital tool in combating crime and safeguarding public infrastructure.

He also urged residents of Delta State to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support the fight against vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage.

The NSCDC Delta State Command reiterated that anyone involved in the vandalization, purchase, or sale of stolen critical national infrastructure would be identified, arrested, and made to face the full weight of the law.

2027: Delta Has the Resources to Open Up Rural Communities Through Link Roads — AAC Governorship Candidate, Engr. Isaac Eshor

ASABA, Delta State — The African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Delta State governorship election, Engr. Isaac O. Eshor, has criticized the state of infrastructure across Delta State, arguing that the government’s development efforts do not reflect the enormous financial resources available to the state.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with grassroots newspaper publishers in Asaba on Thursday, Eshor expressed confidence in his chances of winning the 2027 governorship election. He outlined his vision for the state, focusing on rural infrastructure, economic development, and what he described as the need for competent leadership over political zoning.

Introducing himself, Eshor said he is a native of Ebu in Oshimili North Local Government Area, a maritime engineer, entrepreneur, employer of labour, International Ambassador to Intercap Nigeria, Founder of the Focus Foundation, and the AAC governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

‘Incumbent Governors Can Be Defeated’

Responding to questions about his chances against the incumbent administration, Eshor said history has shown that sitting governors can be voted out when citizens are dissatisfied with their performance.

According to him, Delta State receives enormous monthly allocations, yet many communities continue to suffer from poor infrastructure and a lack of basic amenities.

He cited his hometown, Ebu, as an example, lamenting that residents have lived without critical infrastructure for decades.

“The major economic road linking Ebu to neighbouring communities has collapsed, cutting the community off from surrounding towns. The only access route now is through the Illah federal road, which is also in a deplorable condition,” he said.

Eshor noted that the road was last reconstructed during the administration of former Governor James Ibori about three decades ago, adding that successive governments have failed to address the problem despite repeated appeals from residents.

He also pointed to similar conditions in Ashama, Aniocha South Local Government Area, where many roads remain impassable, forcing residents to rely largely on motorcycles for transportation.

According to him, other communities across Delta Central, including the Orhoakpor–Ododegho–Ughelli Road in Ethiope East Local Government Area, also face severe infrastructural challenges.

He added that communities in Delta South, including Asaba-Ase through Uzere, equally lack adequate link roads.

While acknowledging the state’s ongoing flyover projects, Eshor argued that Delta State possesses sufficient financial capacity to execute both urban and rural infrastructure simultaneously.

“With about ₦936 billion in federal allocation for 2025, excluding internally generated revenue, Delta State has the resources to construct flyovers while also opening up rural communities through quality road networks,” he stated.

Promise to Prioritize Link Roads

If elected governor, Eshor pledged to prioritize the construction and rehabilitation of strategic link roads connecting communities across the state within his first two years in office.

“Our farmers struggle to transport their produce because of bad roads. Infrastructure is the foundation of economic development. Opening up our communities will improve commerce, agriculture, and the overall quality of life,” he said.

He further compared Delta State with states such as Abia and Enugu, arguing that despite having fewer resources, they appear to be making greater progress in infrastructure development.

Campaign Strategy and Equity Debate

On how he intends to defeat the incumbent governor in 2027, Eshor declined to disclose his campaign strategy but maintained that he is fully prepared for the contest.

“I will not reveal my strategy now, but I am in the race to win,” he said.

Addressing the ongoing debate over power rotation and zoning in Delta State, Eshor stated that his party does not subscribe to zoning as a constitutional requirement.

According to him, leadership should be determined by competence, integrity, capacity, and the ability to deliver results rather than ethnic or senatorial considerations.

“We believe Deltans should choose the person with the vision and competence to move the state forward. Leadership should not be restricted by zoning but by the capacity to govern effectively,” he added.

The AAC governorship candidate said he is consulting stakeholders across the state and remains optimistic that voters will make what he described as the right choice in the 2027 governorship election.

Gateway to Ebu Crumbles as Residents Urge Urgent Government Intervention

Residents of Ebu Community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State have renewed their appeal to the Federal Government and the Delta State Government to urgently address the worsening infrastructural challenges confronting the community, warning that years of neglect have left the area isolated from meaningful development.

The residents said Ebu has, for decades, remained on the margins of government development initiatives despite its contributions to the socio-economic growth of Delta State.

They lamented that poor road infrastructure has continued to hinder economic activities, restrict access to healthcare and education, and make daily life increasingly difficult.

Despite their concerns, the community commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for awarding the Ilo–Ebu/Palace Road project, describing the intervention as a major step towards reconnecting Ebu with the state’s development agenda.

According to community stakeholders, the project has renewed hope among residents who had long believed that government presence in the area was virtually nonexistent.

However, they stressed that the Ebu–Ezi-Ukala Road, the principal gateway into the community, remains in a deplorable condition and requires urgent rehabilitation.

“The Ebu–Ezi-Ukala Road is the lifeline of our community. Its terrible condition has made transportation difficult, increased the cost of doing business, and slowed economic growth,” a community source said.

The residents also decried the poor state of the federal road linking Ebu to neighbouring Illah community, noting that its deterioration has compounded transportation challenges and further isolated the community.

According to them, the poor road network has adversely affected farmers, traders, students, healthcare delivery, and other socio-economic activities, making it increasingly difficult for residents to access essential services.

While expressing appreciation for Governor Oborevwori’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure development, the people appealed to both the Federal Government and the Delta State Government to prioritise the rehabilitation of the Ebu–Ezi-Ukala Road and other critical infrastructure within the community.

They expressed confidence that sustained government intervention would not only improve connectivity but also unlock the community’s economic potential and enhance the quality of life for residents.

The stakeholders maintained that with improved road infrastructure and basic amenities, Ebu can reclaim its place as a vibrant community contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of Delta State.

They therefore urged the relevant authorities to act without delay, insisting that restoring the community’s road network is essential to ending years of isolation and ensuring inclusive development.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Delta State Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in the fight against corruption and related offences.

The assurance was given when the Acting Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) of the ICPC in Delta State, Mr. Livinus Edor, led a delegation of the commission’s management team on a familiarization visit to the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Asaba.

Speaking during the visit, Edor commended the existing relationship between both agencies and called for deeper cooperation through enhanced intelligence sharing, surveillance, vetting, and operational support.

According to him, stronger inter-agency collaboration is essential to effectively combat corruption and other related crimes across the country.

“My visit today is to improve on the existing relationship between us. NSCDC has been our good partner in the discharge of our constitutional responsibility to fight corruption. We need to form a stronger bond, especially in operational support, strategic information sharing, intelligence gathering, vetting, and surveillance,” he said.

Responding, the Delta State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Chinedu, welcomed the ICPC delegation and described corruption as a major threat to national security, capable of undermining the country’s stability, prosperity, and development.

He assured the commission of the Corps’ continued support in fulfilling its constitutional mandate, stressing that the NSCDC remains committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The Commandant further disclosed that the Corps operates a dedicated Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), established to promote ethical conduct, detect corrupt practices, and strengthen collaboration with the ICPC to ensure public resources are effectively managed and used for their intended purposes.

He reiterated that the NSCDC would continue to work with relevant anti-corruption agencies to enhance accountability and safeguard public interest.
