Gateway to Ebu Crumbles as Residents Urge Urgent Government Intervention

Residents of Ebu Community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State have renewed their appeal to the Federal Government and the Delta State Government to urgently address the worsening infrastructural challenges confronting the community, warning that years of neglect have left the area isolated from meaningful development.

The residents said Ebu has, for decades, remained on the margins of government development initiatives despite its contributions to the socio-economic growth of Delta State.

They lamented that poor road infrastructure has continued to hinder economic activities, restrict access to healthcare and education, and make daily life increasingly difficult.

Despite their concerns, the community commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for awarding the Ilo–Ebu/Palace Road project, describing the intervention as a major step towards reconnecting Ebu with the state’s development agenda.

According to community stakeholders, the project has renewed hope among residents who had long believed that government presence in the area was virtually nonexistent.

However, they stressed that the Ebu–Ezi-Ukala Road, the principal gateway into the community, remains in a deplorable condition and requires urgent rehabilitation.

“The Ebu–Ezi-Ukala Road is the lifeline of our community. Its terrible condition has made transportation difficult, increased the cost of doing business, and slowed economic growth,” a community source said.

The residents also decried the poor state of the federal road linking Ebu to neighbouring Illah community, noting that its deterioration has compounded transportation challenges and further isolated the community.

According to them, the poor road network has adversely affected farmers, traders, students, healthcare delivery, and other socio-economic activities, making it increasingly difficult for residents to access essential services.

While expressing appreciation for Governor Oborevwori’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure development, the people appealed to both the Federal Government and the Delta State Government to prioritise the rehabilitation of the Ebu–Ezi-Ukala Road and other critical infrastructure within the community.

They expressed confidence that sustained government intervention would not only improve connectivity but also unlock the community’s economic potential and enhance the quality of life for residents.

The stakeholders maintained that with improved road infrastructure and basic amenities, Ebu can reclaim its place as a vibrant community contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of Delta State.

They therefore urged the relevant authorities to act without delay, insisting that restoring the community’s road network is essential to ending years of isolation and ensuring inclusive development.
