The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Delta State, Engr. Isaac Eshor, has criticised the recent visit of a Delta State Government delegation to Ebu Community in Oshimili North Local Government Area, describing the exercise as a political gimmick rather than a genuine intervention in the community’s infrastructural challenges.
Eshor, in a statement reacting to the government’s inspection of the deteriorating roads in the agrarian community, alleged that the visit was aimed at creating false hope among residents and pacifying them ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
According to him, successive administrations in Delta State have failed to adequately address the infrastructural challenges confronting Ebu and several other rural communities across the state.
He cited dilapidated roads, inadequate social amenities, poor healthcare facilities and economic hardship among the challenges facing residents.
“The government’s visit to Ebu was nothing more than political window dressing. Once again, the people have been given assurances that their roads will soon be fixed, but the question remains: why are these promises coming only after years of neglect?” Eshor queried.
The AAC governorship candidate argued that the condition of roads in Ebu reflects what he described as the broader infrastructural challenges confronting rural communities across Delta State, despite the state’s substantial financial resources.
Eshor also called on the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to provide greater transparency on the utilisation of state revenues.
He claimed that Delta State had received ₦4.119 trillion in federal allocations, excluding internally generated revenue, and argued that residents deserved to know how such resources had translated into tangible development across the state.
“Deltans deserve to know how these resources have been spent and what direct impact they have had on the lives of ordinary citizens,” he stated.
Eshor maintained that poor road infrastructure has continued to hinder agricultural production, restrict movement and undermine economic activities in communities where residents depend largely on farming and small-scale businesses.
He urged residents of Ebu not to be swayed by government visits and political assurances, saying that the performance of any administration should be measured by completed projects and tangible improvements in the living conditions of the people.
“What the people are witnessing is another round of political deception. Ebu deserves action, not endless inspections and assurances. Development must be visible, practical and impactful,” he said.
The AAC candidate further called for improved healthcare, potable water, educational infrastructure and economic opportunities for rural communities across Delta State.
Reaffirming his political agenda, Eshor pledged that an AAC-led administration would prioritise rural development, transparency, accountability and equitable distribution of infrastructure across communities in the state.
The government delegation’s visit to Ebu followed complaints from residents over the deteriorating condition of the Ebu–Ezi–Ukala Road, an important route linking the community with neighbouring towns and commercial centres.
Eshor also expressed concern over the condition of the Ogbolu–Illah–Ebu Road, which he identified as a federal road serving the area.
He said the poor condition of both the federal and state roads had negatively affected transportation, commerce and agricultural activities in Ebu and surrounding communities.
According to him, the challenges confronting Delta State are not necessarily due to a lack of resources but, rather, what he described as the failure of successive administrations to translate available resources into visible development.
He therefore called on the relevant authorities to move beyond inspections and political engagements and commence rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected roads.
“The people have waited long enough. What they need now is action, not another cycle of political promises. Government must demonstrate its commitment through tangible projects that will improve the welfare of the people and stimulate economic growth,” Eshor added.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has explained why Osun State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan was asked to step aside from election security duties ahead of the state’s governorship election.
Disu said the decision followed complaints from political parties and concerns about public confidence in the neutrality of the Osun State Police Command.
The IGP clarified that the directive was not a disciplinary action against Gotan. He described it as a precautionary measure intended to strengthen public trust in the police and protect the credibility of the electoral process.
Disu provided the explanation during a meeting with civil society organisations in Abuja on Friday. The engagement focused on security preparations for the Osun governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The civil society delegation was led by Yiaga Africa Executive Director Samson Itodo.
According to the IGP, political tension and incidents of violence have increased in Osun ahead of the election. Intelligence reports reportedly linked some of the disturbances to rival groups allegedly associated with political interests.
Disu said he had visited Osun and met with political parties and other stakeholders as part of efforts to reduce tension and prevent election-related violence.
Following the concerns raised about the state command, the Nigeria Police Force deployed Samuel Erale Etaifo as Commissioner of Police for the election. Etaifo will coordinate security operations across the state, while an Assistant Inspector-General of Police assigned to the poll is also expected to assume duty.
Disu warned political actors against involving criminal or cult groups in the election. He also cautioned candidates and their supporters against actions capable of disrupting voting or threatening public safety.
The IGP disclosed that some politicians had attempted to identify senior police officers assigned to particular local government areas before the election.
To reduce the risk of political pressure or manipulation, senior officers will reportedly receive details of their specific deployment locations shortly before voting begins.
The police plan to deploy at least four officers to each of Osun State’s 3,673 polling units. This would amount to a minimum of 14,692 police personnel, excluding officers from other security agencies participating in the operation.
The security deployment is expected to protect voters, election officials, candidates and electoral materials before, during and after the poll.
Disu assured residents that they would be able to exercise their voting rights without fear. He urged political parties, candidates and supporters to obey the Electoral Act and avoid conduct that could undermine the election.
Police officers assigned to the exercise were also directed to remain professional, impartial and respectful of the law. Any officer found compromising the process could face disciplinary action.
The temporary change in election security leadership places police neutrality at the centre of preparations for the poll. Its effectiveness will ultimately be measured by whether voters can move freely, polling centres remain secure and political parties have confidence in the conduct of security personnel.

EBU, DELTA STATE – Residents of Ebu, a predominantly agrarian community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, have renewed calls for urgent government intervention after years of infrastructural decay left the community struggling with poor road networks, inadequate public facilities, and economic hardship.
For decades, residents say Ebu has suffered neglect from successive administrations, with deteriorating roads, dilapidated schools, poorly equipped healthcare facilities, and limited access to essential services becoming part of daily life. The situation has worsened during the rainy season as flooding and erosion have rendered major roads nearly impassable, disrupting transportation, agriculture, commerce, and social activities.
Hope was rekindled on Thursday when a high-powered government delegation led by the Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Olorogun Innocent Esewezie, visited the community to assess the condition of the Ebu–Illah–Ugbolu Road and engage with residents.
The delegation included the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oshimili North, Hon. Austin Nnabuife, Hon. Barr. Princess Pat Ajudua, Chief Patrick Ukah, Chief Olisa Ifeajika, and other prominent political stakeholders.
During the inspection, the team witnessed firsthand the severity of the road crisis. The delegation was reportedly unable to continue through sections of the federal Ugbolu–Illah–Ebu Road because they had become virtually impassable. As a result, they diverted through the Ezi-Ukala–Ebu Road, a state road constructed more than three decades ago during the administration of former Governor James Ibori but now in a state of advanced deterioration.
On arrival in Ebu, the delegation observed several trailers and heavy-duty trucks stranded along the road, unable to proceed due to the collapsed sections of the route.
The team was received by the traditional ruler, the Onu of Ebu, alongside community leaders and residents, who highlighted the devastating impact of the failing road network on transportation, agriculture, trade, education, healthcare, and overall economic development.
Speaking during the visit, Olorogun Esewezie said the delegation came to identify with the people of Ebu and neighbouring communities while obtaining firsthand information on the extent of the challenges confronting them.
He assured residents that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is fully aware of the situation and remains committed to finding a lasting solution.
According to him, the Delta State Government recognises the urgency of the situation and will initiate the necessary processes aimed at restoring the affected roads and improving access for residents and motorists.
Responding on behalf of the community, the Onu of Ebu commended the delegation for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of responsive leadership.
He appealed to the Delta State Government to prioritise the reconstruction of the Ebu–Ezi-Ukala Road, describing it as the community’s major gateway to the outside world.
The monarch lamented that the deplorable condition of the road has effectively isolated Ebu from neighbouring communities, severely affecting movement, trade, and economic activities.
Despite the government’s assurances, many residents remain cautiously optimistic.
Mr. Ide Idabor said the community has witnessed several inspection visits over the years without tangible results.
“Ebu has suffered for decades. This is not the first time government officials have visited these roads. Many people have already lost hope because previous inspections did not lead to action,” he said.
Another resident, Kema Ogbolu, described the community as one that has been excluded from the state’s development agenda.
“For years we have cried for help. Nothing has been done. Ebu is bleeding because critical infrastructure has been neglected for too long. We sincerely hope this visit will finally translate into meaningful action,” he said.
Although residents welcomed the inspection, many insist that what the community urgently needs is not another assessment but immediate reconstruction of the failed roads.
For the people of Ebu, the visit represents a crucial test of government’s commitment to inclusive development. They believe only swift intervention can reconnect the community to neighbouring towns, revive economic activities, and restore public confidence after decades of neglect.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to immediately approach the court and seek the removal of an order freezing the Osun State Government’s bank account.
The EFCC obtained the court order on August 5, 2026, as part of an investigation involving the state government’s finances.
Reacting to the development, President Tinubu said he was deeply embarrassed by the timing of the commission’s action, particularly because Osun State is only days away from its governorship election.
The President clarified that his concern was not about the EFCC exercising its statutory powers or acting pursuant to a court order. He said the proximity of the action to the election could create the impression that a federal institution was being used to influence the electoral process.
Tinubu explained that his administration has consistently allowed anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies to operate independently and without political interference.
According to him, strong democratic institutions must be permitted to carry out their legal responsibilities without fear, favour or pressure from political authorities.
The President said he had deliberately avoided interfering in the operational activities of the EFCC and other investigative or prosecutorial agencies because institutional independence is essential to good governance and the rule of law.
However, Tinubu noted that actions taken by federal institutions are often attributed to the Presidency, even when he had no prior knowledge of them.
He acknowledged that he had not yet received a complete briefing on the circumstances that led the EFCC to seek the court order. Nevertheless, he maintained that its timing was inappropriate and required his intervention in the wider public interest.
Tinubu stressed that no federal agency should take any action capable of creating suspicion of manipulation or interference ahead of the Osun governorship election.
He said protecting public confidence in the credibility, fairness and integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process must take priority.
The President consequently directed the EFCC to return to court without delay, apply for the order to be vacated and discontinue any related action against the Osun State Government.
The directive was confirmed in an official statement released by the State House
