WAEC Withholds Results of Candidates in Indebted States Over Unpaid Examination Fees

LAGOS, Nigeria – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of candidates sponsored by state governments that are yet to pay outstanding examination fees, preventing affected students from accessing their 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

The Head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office explained that while the examination results had been released, candidates from indebted states would not be able to check their results until the respective state governments cleared their financial obligations to the examination body.

WAEC appealed to the affected state governments to settle the outstanding debts promptly to prevent students from suffering unnecessary delays in accessing their academic records.

The council stressed that the measure is intended to recover outstanding examination fees owed by state governments and urged authorities to prioritize the welfare and future of the affected candidates.

Education stakeholders have expressed concern that the delay could affect students seeking admission into tertiary institutions and those applying for scholarships or employment opportunities requiring their O’Level results.

WAEC advised affected candidates to contact their respective state education authorities for updates while awaiting payment of the outstanding debts.
